The Correctional Management Institute of Texas is offering a Media and Public Relations Training Program for staff working at all levels in jails, prisons, parole, probation, pretrial services, juvenile justice, and other corrections-oriented organizations. The training will be held at the George J. Beto Criminal Justice Center at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.

Participants in this 28-hour program will be provided information related to controlling an interview, conducting a successful news conference, writing a news release that gets attention, presenting your case to the public, identifying and using interviewing skills, utilizing strategies for communicating effectively, and identifying strategies for working with current and emerging media.

All of our instructors have vast experience with the media.  In addition, we are pleased to announce that one of the instructors this year will be Kelli Arena, an award-winning, 25-year veteran of CNN and former chief correspondent covering the U.S. Department of Justice.

The class will be held from Monday, July 5, 2010, to Friday, July 9, 2010. The class will be limited to 25 participants.

Cancellation Policy:
If the participant has already paid, he/she will be refunded half the cost of the registration fee if written notice of cancellation is received by the Correctional Management Institute of Texas no later than ten (10) business days prior to the program. No refunds are available after this date, but substitutions of attendees are permitted. If no written cancellation is received and the participant does not attend the program, the participant/agency will be required to pay 100% of the registration fee if the registration fee was not previously paid.
