SESSION 5: Association of Paroling Authorities International (APAI) Speaker Series

Topics Covered:

  • WHY PAROLING AUTHORITIES SHOULD INTEGRATE RNR AND DESISTANCE: THE IMPORTANCE OF ASSESSING PROTECTIVE FACTORS: This session will first reflect current theory regarding RNR and crime desistance to demonstrate why both are important in providing a more holistic understanding of offenders when making parole decisions and informing conditions for community supervision. Next, a large US dataset (n~19,000) will be utilized to provide empirical support for the importance of stable and acute dynamic risks and protective factors in understanding parole suitability. Finally, dynamic risk re-assessment will be discussed to demonstrate its importance in risk management for individuals on community supervision.

Registration fee waived for members. Link to meeting will be sent out prior to each session. The Association will conduct audits of membership lists for those who are registered. If you are not a member, you will be asked to pay $15 per session or join as an individual member ($65) to view all five at no additional cost.

Cancellation Policy:
If the participant has already paid, he/she will be refunded half the cost of the registration fee if written notice of cancellation is received by the Correctional Management Institute of Texas no later than ten (10) business days prior to the program. No refunds are available after this date, but substitutions of attendees are permitted. If no written cancellation is received and the participant does not attend the program, the participant/agency will be required to pay 100% of the registration fee if the registration fee was not previously paid.
